What is LegitScript certification?
LegitScript certification is a compliance certification that pharmacies, telemedicine providers and other healthcare merchants can earn from LegitScript. LegitScript says it independently verifies practitioner credentials, medication sourcing and advertising accuracy. Google's U.S. ad policy allows telemedicine providers that hold it, and many credit cards and internet platforms require it.
What does LegitScript certification cover?
Healthcare merchant certification "isn't just for pharmacies. It includes telemedicine and telehealth providers, and it's required by many major credit cards and internet platforms" [1]. LegitScript says its Healthcare Certification "independently verifies practitioner credentials, medication sourcing, and advertising accuracy" [2].
Why do telemedicine sites need it to advertise?
LegitScript warns that without it "you'll be limited in your ability to advertise on major search engines and social media platforms, including Google, Microsoft, Meta, and TikTok" [1]. Google's U.S. ad policy states it "allows telemedicine providers if they're accredited by LegitScript's Healthcare Merchant Certification Program, which offers telemedicine certification to websites that provide virtual healthcare services and facilitate prescribing" [3]. For online pharmacies, Google lists LegitScript's program as one accepted accreditor, alongside ".Pharmacy" [3]. Separately, the FDA's BeSafeRx campaign offers consumers a way to look up a state-licensed online pharmacy [4].
