How is Foundayo dosed?

Foundayo tablets are taken orally once daily, with or without food, and swallowed whole without breaking, crushing, or chewing them [1]. The starting dosage is 0.8 mg once daily; after at least 30 days, the dose is increased to 2.5 mg once daily, and may be raised further in 30-day steps up to 17.2 mg once daily [1]. Foundayo is supplied in six strengths: 0.8 mg, 2.5 mg, 5.5 mg, 9 mg, 14.5 mg, and 17.2 mg tablets [1]. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established [1].

What are Foundayo's warnings and side effects?

Foundayo carries a boxed warning for risk of thyroid C-cell tumors, based on rodent studies of GLP-1 receptor agonist activity, and is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 [1]. The most common adverse reactions, each reported in at least 5% of patients, are nausea, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, headache, abdominal distension, fatigue, eructation, gastroesophageal reflux disease, flatulence, and hair loss [1]. Eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries can access Foundayo for a $50 monthly copay through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge [2].
