As of September 2026, the newest FDA approval is Foundayo (orforglipron), a daily tablet approved April 1, 2026. CagriSema is under FDA review, and retatrutide is in late trials with a filing planned for 2027.
What is the newest FDA-approved GLP-1 medication?
Foundayo. FDA's 2026 novel drug approvals list records orforglipron, sold as Foundayo, approved on April 1, 2026 to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction long term in adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related condition [1]. Its label describes a GLP-1 receptor agonist taken orally once daily, with or without food, in six tablet strengths from 0.8 mg to 17.2 mg [2]. It is covered in full under Foundayo.
Which GLP-1 drugs are waiting on FDA?
CagriSema, Novo Nordisk's once-weekly combination of the amylin analogue cagrilintide with semaglutide, was submitted to FDA in December 2025, and the company says a decision is anticipated by late 2026 [3]. Retatrutide, Lilly's investigational GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptor agonist, completed further phase 3 obesity trials in July 2026, and Lilly plans to submit a Biologics License Application in the first quarter of 2027 [4]. Neither is FDA-approved; FDA's position on compounding each is covered under CagriSema and retatrutide.
